The problem with describing every service you can deliver

Industry: B2B advisory and consulting

Anonymized prior professional experience from the founder’s earlier roles. Not a client engagement of The Narrative Quotient.

The communications context

As advisory firms expand, their service lists grow. An outsider may see dozens of offerings but still struggle to recognize when to call the firm and why its approach is relevant.

The tension

The value proposition becomes difficult to discern when service categories replace the situations and problems clients actually want solved.

The strategic lens

Lead with the buying trigger and ideal client, show the problems the firm is equipped to address, and use service lines to back up --- not replace --- the positioning.

What it reinforces

The best service description answers "when should I hire you?" before "how many services do you offer?"

My prior work in this sector covered positioning, messaging, PR strategy, media outreach and campaign execution. The observations above explain a relevant strategic lens; they are not claims about a particular confidential brief, outcome or historical campaign.
